Our story begins with a river

Abuela Ecológica Foundation was born in the Northern Zone of Costa Rica, on the banks of a river that was losing its forest.

At 80 years old, Mrs. Bertalia González decided not to stand by. She began germinating seeds at home and reforesting the riverbanks with native species where life had once flourished.

She did not do it for recognition. She did it for the animals, for the land, and for those who had not yet been born.

“We must plant trees to leave life for the children who have not yet been born.”

For San Carlos, Costa Rica and the world.
