Abuela Ecologica Foundation

About Us

Environmental protection, community action, and sustainable development from the local level.

Our origins

The Ecological Grandmother

The Abuela Ecologica Foundation was born inspired by the legacy of Bertalia González Villalobos (1935–2020), a community leader in reforestation and water protection.

With seeds in her hands and conviction in her heart, she traveled through communities planting trees as an act of intergenerational responsibility.

In 2018, together with her daughter Laura Alfaro González and her granddaughter María Murillo Alfaro, that legacy became a foundation.

Transforming the way we live

It means rethinking how we produce, consume, and coexist. Sustainability is not an add-on: it is a new way of understanding our relationship with nature.

Caring for the Earth is caring for those who have not yet been born.

A conviction that guides every action of the Abuela Ecologica Foundation.
