Restoring the Great Green Macaw's habitat in San Carlos by planting key tree species and strengthening biological corridors.
Trees and Feathers (Árboles y Plumas) is a project dedicated to restoring the habitat of the Great Green Macaw. One of Costa Rica's most iconic macaws, this species is also among its most threatened. Deforestation and forest fragmentation have drastically reduced its habitat, leaving it confined to small, isolated populations.
San Carlos remains a key area for its recovery. Forests, committed communities, and essential tree species such as the mountain almond still exist here, offering the conditions needed for the macaw to feed and nest once again.
Trees and Feathers was created as a direct response to this challenge: restoring biological corridors through the planting of key tree species and the active participation of local communities, institutions, and strategic partners.
