Grandchildren of the Ecological Grandma

Grandchildren of the Ecological Grandma is a charitable campaign launched in 2020 with a simple yet meaningful purpose: to bring a Christmas gift to children living in vulnerable rural communities in Costa Rica's Northern Region.

Since its beginning, the campaign has delivered more than 1,700 gifts thanks to the support of sponsors, generous donations, and companies that believe in the social impact of this initiative. Each gift represents much more than an object: it is a gesture of support, joy, and dignity for the families who receive it.

Over the years, the campaign has reached several communities:

• 2020: 350 gifts delivered in the Maleku Indigenous Territory, in the El Sol, Margarita, and Tonjibe settlements.

• 2021: Around 500 gifts delivered in Santa Rosa de Pocosol and Tres y Tres de Pocosol, as well as to CENCINAI beneficiaries in San Joaquín de Cutris and Dulce Nombre de Ciudad Quesada.

• 2022: 150 gifts delivered in Boca San Carlos.

• 2023: Nearly 350 gifts for children attending CENCINAI centers in Boca Tapada, Santa Rita, Boca San Carlos, and Cureñita, as well as the Pediatric Unit of San Carlos Hospital.

• 2024: 350 gifts delivered in Boca Tapada, Santa Rita, Boca San Carlos, and Cureñita.

• 2025: 200 gifts distributed in Crucitas and Moravia de Cutris, the Pediatric Unit of San Carlos Hospital, and the Hogarcito in Ciudad Quesada.

Since its inception, the campaign has been coordinated by María Fernanda Murillo and sustained through the ongoing commitment of individuals and organizations that choose each year to participate as sponsors or make donations.

Grandchildren of the Ecological Grandma shows that solidarity can also transform territories, build community, and leave a lasting mark on childhood.
